TalkAhead, another Solution to Monetize your Blog

For the majority of Bloggers, monetization is a prerequisite so it’s nice to know that there are numerous ways to do this. TalkAhead is a fairly new monetization method that makes use of your blog’s comments to earn you extra revenue. The basic concept is simple enough, for example, if you have done any reviews lately then chances are you may well have left something out or made an error in your research. As well as being a little embarrassing, your mistakes can also cause the owner or company to get negative feedback. This is where TalkAhead slots in perfectly and allows the vendor of the product or service to set things straight with a sponsored comment.

How it Works for Publishers

Once your blog is setup with TalkAhead, which you can do with a simple JavaScript tag at the end of your article, you will see a new layout with a link inviting you to add your sponsored comment. In the examples below, one is from a news site and another from a blog. The sponsored comments always have prominence so are first in the queue thus drawing more attention for the sponsor.

To recap, Sponsored Comments are paid messages that respond to a news article or blog post and are prominently displayed ahead of the readers’ comments section. You can set your preferences for price and various other options like allowing the commenter to post a comment right away or await moderation. The latter is probably best as you may get pre-made generic comments, although unlikely.

TalkAhead Alerts for Marketers, Advertisers, PR Firms, Social Marketers, Entrepreneurs

For vendors, companies, individuals or corporations that are signed up to TalkAhead’s network you can setup alerts, which are in real time. So if an article gets published anywhere on the web then you will be the first to know, this then allows you to respond and review the story.

Inside for Publishers

The Admin Centre lets you select your options by channel, and manage your comments efficiently and easily.

Terms and Conditions (make sure you read these)

Just to make it perfectly clear the company’s definition of “Sponsored Comments” are as follows.

“Sponsored Comment” means the content being served by the TalkAhead Service at the Article Pages, as provided by the Advertiser. Such content may be in a form of text, advertisement, banner, links or other similar forms. (Source: T & C)

I first became aware of this service through iblogzone.com and the general feedback was positive with one publisher reporting an increase in site revenue. Of course the more popular your blog is, the better chance of getting sponsored feedback. The participants of the TalkAhead network include various industries that you can do reviews on, so overall I like the idea but I will wait for further feedback before I commit.

The minimum payout for publishers is set at $100.00 and the advertisers’ revenue share is set at 65% to the publisher.

  • I have to admit this looks interesting and I will look into it. Monetizing Blogs is essential if like me you create mini market niche Blogs. Using this in addition to Adsense certainly looks well worth exploring.

  • I took the plunge after reading about TalkAhead on the iblogzone. I loaded the code on 16 blogs, some Blogger, some WP.com, and some WP.org. Most of my blogging friends like Ditesco and Extreme John get 25-30 comments per post, minimum, I’m lucky if I get any – so even though my blogs average 75 posts per site or more I am worried that my general lack of comments will work against me. What advertiser is going to want to leave a sponsored comment on a post with no comments at all? Or would they like this for some perverted reason?

    • Hi,

I have to agree to a certain extent with you, the proof is in the pudding so to speak. I guess this will only get used on very popular blogs that get plenty of feedback, this is why I probably won’t participate in this program. I have found occasionally if you do a review on a popular product, then chances are the owner will comment on it to show they care and add more reasons to use their product or service.

  • I have just entered, until now no sponsored comment for me but this may happen because I have a low PR, I will see what will happen in the future.
